Jon Derricott

Jon Derricott

United Kingdom

Originally a nurse, Jon has vast experience of working in harm reduction settings for over 35 years. This has encompassed a very wide area, including face to face client work, project design, delivery and management at local, national and international levels, writing, film making and film production. Originally working with people who use drugs and latterly in tobacco harm reduction. Jon was always very interested in photography and a commission from the English Department of Health in 2002 to produce a successful short film about heroin overdose provoked an interest in filmmaking that subsequently took in subjects as diverse as illegal drug use, blood-borne viruses, tobacco/nicotine, youth offending and cycling. For five years he managed the Tobacco Harm Reduction Scholarship Programme for KAC, with a particular interest in encouraging film makers. He has recently semi-retired, but continues to enjoy mentoring new and established film makers via the THRSP.

In this episode of GFN Insights, Jon Derricott from Knowledge Action Change (KAC) joins Joanna Junak to discuss the development of the Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction (GSTHR) image library.

Hosted on Flickr, this unique initiative aims to document the rapidly evolving world of tobacco and nicotine products. From modern vape shops to traditional tobacconists and local products like gutka or negrimbo, the library serves as a vital, royalty-free resource for activists, journalists, and presenters worldwide.
